Dental Implant Treatment Options

May 30, 2007, BOSTON , MASS. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots placed into a patient's jaw to serve as an anchor for replacement teeth or bridges. Various treatment options are available for patients in need of an implant or implants.

SINGLE TOOTH REPLACEMENT
Typically, one implant and crown are all that's needed to repair a single missing tooth. This dental implant will replace both your lost natural tooth and its root.

SEVERAL TEETH REPLACEMENT
If you're missing several teeth, Dr. Don Rothenberg can replace them with an implant-supported bridge. These implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of their roots.

SINUS AUGMENTATION
The success of an implant depends upon the quality and quantity of bone in which the implant is to be imbedded. The upper back jaw usually is one of the most difficult areas of treatment because of the quality and quantity of bone and its close proximity to the sinus area.

Sinus augmentation may help correct this problem as it raises the sinus floor and develops bone for optimal implant placement.

RIDGE MODIFICATION
Upper or lower jaw deformities can result in inadequate bone for implant placement. This problem can be corrected by lifting the gum away from the ridge to expose the bony defect. The ridge then can be built up by filling the defect with bone or a bone substitute.

A ridge modification can greatly improve your appearance while increasing the chance of successful and enduring implantation.

POST TREATMENT
Regular and conscientious oral hygiene is a necessity to maintain your implants. As with your permanent teeth, consistent at-home care (including thorough brushing and flossing) should be combined with regular dental visits.

Dr. Rothenberg will work closely with you after treatment to develop a care plan suited to your needs. You'll also need to schedule regular follow-up visits so he can monitor the health of your implants, teeth and gums.
